What makes you eligible to receive the VA payment?

The veterans who meet the below criteria of the Veteran Disability compensation can qualify for VA disability payments:

  • First, you must meet the following two criteria:
  • You have served either active duty for training, active duty, or inactive duty training, and
  • You currently suffer from a sickness or injury that affects your body or mind.
  • Now, you must meet at least the below eligibility criteria to receive the VA payments:
  • You may file an in-service disability claim if you became ill or injured while serving in the military and can relate this condition to your illness or injury, or
  • You filed a pre-service disability claim because you were unwell or injured prior to joining the military and your service made it worse, or
  • You filed a post-service disability claim because you had a disability from your active-duty service that didn’t show up until after you left the military.
  • Veterans who meet the below conditions automatically get the VA disability payments:
  • When you have some presumed conditions that do not need to be proven, the administration automatically grants you VA disability assistance.
  • The presumptive conditions are a chronic illness that shows just after a year of military retirement, the illness or injury that was caused when you were a prisoner of war, or a sickness that occurred when you came into contact with hazardous materials.

Supporting Evidence to Claim VA Payments

The veterans looking to claim the VA disability payments have to submit the following evidence and documents to claim the disability payments:

  • Your VA medical records linked to your current medical or physical conditions that have gotten worse after your services,
  • If you have private medical reports or records, you can also present them to claim VA disability,
  • You will need to present supporting statements from family members, people you served with, law personnel, or clergy members claiming how the condition got worse and when it occurred.

How can you claim the VA Disability payments?

Veterans who haven’t claimed the VA disability compensation despite being eligible or who have just retired and are eligible for the compensation can claim the payment in the following ways:

  • Online on Va.gov: You can visit the official Veterans Administration website for disability compensation at https://www.va.gov/disability/how-to-file-claim/ and start your application.
  • Mail: You can also download the VA form 21-526EZ and mail the form to the Veteran Affairs Department at the postal address: Department of Veteran Affairs, Claims Intake Center, PO BOX 4444, Janesville, WI 53547 4444.
  • In-person or by fax: You can visit the nearest VA office and ask for the VA disability form and apply easily or you can fax your application at 844 531 7818 (when you are in the US) or 248 524 4260 (when you are outside the US).
