The South African government offers financial support to vulnerable Africans with various grants to help them manage their expenses with the rising cost of living. One such grant is Social Relief Distress (SRD) for Africans, Asylum seekers, refugees, and special permit holders to help them financially when they are dealing with unemployment or do not have income.
The SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) administers and manages the SRD grant with other grants. Africans who were wondering about the next payment date of the grant can check the pay date here. The SASSA has confirmed the Jan 2025 SRD grant payment date.

The government increased the SASSA grants earlier this year to match the payments with rising inflation. The SRD grants were also increased from R350 to R370 to help the eligible recipients fight the rising cost of living. The SASSA processes the SRD grant during the end week of the payment month.

What do you have to do for SRD Biometric Identification?
With the January 2025 SASSA grants payment updates, the agency has introduced a new verification system to make the system more fair and transparent for the recipients. The SASSA has initiated the biometric verification system for identity verification and to reduce fraudulent activities.
From now on, the SRD applicants have to go through the biometric verification system to get the approval on their grant. This system will ensure only the individual who qualifies for the grant will receive the payment and people cannot fraud the SASSA with different identities.
The SRD recipients who have already applied and received the payments do not have to do anything for the verification as it is only needed when you apply for the grant, however, if there is some issue in your application, the authority might opt for biometric verification.
People who have any query about the new verification system can call the SASSA helpline number and do not have to worry it will not affect your Jan 2025 payments.
The SASSA have announced the Jan 2025 SRD grant payment dates, the SRD recipients should mark the dates and keep an eye on their account to know if they have received the payment or not.
